Lastly, let me draw attention — as to the most characteristic French book that has come under my notice for some time past — to the "Croquis Parisiens," by M. J. K. Huysmans, who, beginning with eight chapters on the Folies Bergères, introduces his readers to a number of types of Parisian life, and whose prose is illustrated by remarkably clever etchings executed in the free style peculiar to French artists.
